Character Info
Name: Ruggie Bucchi
Canon: Twisted Wonderland
Canon Point: Post-Chapter 3
Age: 17

Background:
• Ruggie grew up in Afterglow Savannah, the homeland of the King of Beasts, one of the greats. The King of Beasts wasn't a born king, but took the kingship through scrupulous planning. Savanaclaw dorm is based around this great and his stubbornness.
• Despite hyenas being a key part in the King of Beast's plan, they're still generally looked down on in society.
• Ruggie grew up extremely poor. When showing a classmate a picture of his childhood home, it was described as a "doghouse."
• It's implied that food was short. He did learn to cook from his grandmother but his least favorite food is simply listed as "rotten food."
• At some point he meets Leona Kingscholar, the second son of the royal family.

• Ruggie entered Night Raven College and was sorted into the Savanaclaw Dorm, where Leona had already been held back a few years.
• He serves as Leona's (de facto) vice-dorm leader, managing Savanaclaw students and trying to get Leona to go to class.

• In his second year, he and Leona concoct a plan to deal with Diasomnia, the dorm that consistently beats them in the yearly Maglift tournament, and all other sources of competition.
• Ruggie uses his unique magic to cause various competitors to injure themselves in ways that look like accidents. Mysterious Transfer Student Protagonist is called in to try and get to the bottom of it.
• The entire plan's crowning event is Ruggie, with his magic enhanced by a potion, taking control of an entire crowd and causing them to storm and trample the Diasomnia team.
• However, he and Leona's plan was figured out and the Diasomnia team had been replaced with body doubles.
• Leona surrenders, not even wanting to play out the match, and Ruggie confronts him, feeling betrayed.
• The heightened emotions of the situation cause Leona to Overblot, a condition where the user's magic goes out of control and they act on their bases fears and instincts. Leona nearly uses his own magic, to turn things to sand, on Ruggie's arm. The dialogue implies it was working, with cracks forming in his skin.
• After defeating Leona and restoring him to his normal state, Ruggie says he doesn't forgive Leona but he'll still follow him. After all, Leona is who he idolizes.
• They lose the tournament but have renewed passion. Keep in mind, renewed passion doesn't mean they plan to get all their wins legitimately. They did not learn that lesson.

• After the events of the Savanaclaw Chapter, Ruggie and the rest of Savanaclaw assist the main character in their conflict with Octavinelle.
• In an attempt to help students that signed an impossible contract with the dorm leader of Octavinelle, the protagonist wagers their dorm... and is kicked out of it until the bet is completed.
• Ruggie convinces Leona to let the protagonist stay in Savanaclaw Dorm temporarily and makes them do chores as collateral.
• He's also integral in a plan that nullifies the contracts. After causing a huge distraction, Ruggie pickpockets the key to the safe where the contracts are being held. He and Leona destroy them.
• This leads to another case of Overblot, despite Ruggie's attempts to smooth things over, so the main three of Savanaclaw officially join forces with the protagonist to stop the rampaging Octavinelle leader.

Personality:
Being based off of hyenas, Ruggie embodies some truth and some fiction to the animals. There is a reputation of them being cowardly scavengers with mocking laughter, which matches how Ruggie appears to others. However, they are actually adept hunters with a solid pack structure. Similarly, Ruggie has many characteristics that people could define him by... and then a deeper code for people who get closer.

Ruggie is certainly opportunistic. When he looks at the people around him, a he's certainly sizing them up. He quickly figures out which of his classmates can be manipulated into favors, who to avoid, and how careful he has to be. He is capable of confronting people head-on but that's often a risky plan and he'd rather go for sneak attacks or running until the situation is favorable. He's quick thinking with people skills and street smarts.

His book smarts, though, are more lacking. He thinks quickly on his feet and assesses situations very quickly but when it comes to traditional academics, he struggles with dedicating himself. He tends to lean on the side of "when will I need this?" and if he can't find an answer it isn't worth it to him. His area of expertise is animal communication and he's also shown to enjoy alchemy. Magic History, though, he nearly failed to the point of a teacher re-considering him for the school.

So, what are Ruggie's objectives and what does he decide is worth his time and effort? Ruggie's hometown is extremely poor. He grew up with very little and that definitely influenced what he finds important. With his least favorite food being described as "rotten food," Ruggie is a glutton with a love of food. He's even used his Unique Magic on another student to swipe their cutlet sandwich. He's also shown to have a preoccupation with money. Canon hasn't revealed what he does with all the money he earns from numerous part-time jobs but it's implied to either go back to his family or get spent on snacks.

Despite being clever and crafty, Ruggie is also an extremely hard worker. One of the qualities exemplified by Savanaclaw students is the "stubbornness" of the King of Beasts. Rather than having things gifted to them, they reach out and take them with their own hands. So, while Ruggie is capable of stealing, he usually goes with the less troublesome task of odd jobs. (Keep in mind, I say that stealing is only more "troublesome." Ruggie has no moral qualms against lying, cheating, or stealing. These are all valid ways to take what he wants.) Characters are often impressed by his ability to manage a room, skill at haggling, and the sheer amount he gets done. He's a full-time student, a member of the Maglift sport club, completes numerous jobs, and serves the Savanaclaw Dorm Leader.

While Ruggie is entirely capable of functioning without his dorm leader, this section would be lacking if I don't mention Leona Kingscholar. Leona is a member of the Afterglow Savannah royal family and has known Ruggie for some time. It's implied that it's partly Leona's connections that let an unknown, poor hyena into the prestigious Night Raven College. Ruggie, despite having no obligation to, serves at Leona's aide, right-hand-man, housekeeper, underling, whatever title suits them best at the moment. He wakes Leona up in the mornings, handles his laundry, nags him to go to class, and even sews buttons back onto his clothes without asking.

Some people take Ruggie's service as a sign that he's obedient or below Leona. This is, again, just a misconception people hold. Ruggie openly admits that he serves Leona because Leona is the best person to help him fulfill his goals. He'll bluntly state that Leona is lazy, complain about him being a pain, or steal from his wallet (because he just leaves it out on the table!). Still, Leona is wealthy, with powerful magic, and a sharp mind that can bring their ambitions to life. Even when Leona Overblots, showing all his emotional weaknesses and saying their ambitions will never happen- Ruggie still maintains that feeling. He doesn't forgive Leona but the haughty royal who can't become king is still someone he respects and sees potential in. He doesn't want to see him look so helpless again.

Ruggie doesn't want to be king, nor does he really want Leona to be king for the sake of his goals. He wants to prove the people wrong who think of him as just a mangy, poor hyena. He wants to have enough food and money to never have to worry about starving. And, when he has extra, he wants to bring that back to his hometown so that the kids who are growing up like he did have all the same opportunities to claw their way up in the world.

As Grimm, the game's mascot character notes, "That Ruggie's a surprisingly good guy, isn't he?"

Powers:
Offensive Magic Offensive magic in Twisted Wonderland comes in four categories: Fire, Water, Earth, and "Null." They follow the usual triangle of effectiveness with null being neutral to all others. Water includes things like ice, Earth includes nature and plants. Ruggie's null magic manifests as darkness. Basically, offensive magic goes like "pew pew fire ball."
Utility Magic. Aside from offensive, element-based magic, there's also plain old utility magic used to enchant objects or brew potions. Ruggie's best subject is "animal communication" where he can use his magic to fluently speak to and understand animals. He also, like all students at Night Raven College, can use a broom to fly.
Unique Magic. Everyone that can use magic in the world of Twisted Wonderland also has a Unique Magic that is only theirs. Because of the power of this magic, students are rarely open about what their Unique Magic is. Ruggie's is called "Laugh with Me" and, after using it, he can briefly cause someone to copy his actions. This is usually limited to one person and he has to do exactly what he wants the victim to do. In the Savanaclaw Chapter, for example, he injures a rival by falling backwards. Ruggie is caught by his fellow dorm members on flat ground while the rival goes through the same motions- but on the stairs, with no one to catch him. Victims usually have a sense of "zoning out" which particularly attentive people can tell they were being controlled by something.

All of Ruggie's magic requires his wand to do, with the exception of his Unique Magic. OOC communication will be key in any attempts to use Ruggie's unique magic. It should not be used frequently enough to merit an opt-out post.
